DAY 6 - THESE GOLDEN DAYS

Hey, it's Kayli.

This morning we went to a school called Golden Rule.  When we walked in there were balloons all around the doorway, and grade 11 students there to greet us. They were all really welcoming and helpful, especially when we needed translating throughout the day. We taught a lot of classes, and talked and played volleyball with kids from all ages and just got to know them. During our lunch break I sat with a big group of grade 9's and talked to them, and played some games on the grass. Big groups usually scare me, and a big group with very little English should have terrified me, but I genuinely enjoyed talking with all of them.

After leaving the school we went to a supermarket and stocked up on all our gifts for supporters and family, as well as snacks for the plane ride home.

Then we left for the guest house, and packed and prepared all the gift bags that we are giving to the teachers of the schools that have very little to offer to their students.

Overall the day was a great opportunity to push myself and step out of my comfort zone, and I can't wait for another day.

Hello - Sheila here...

It is truly hard to believe that it was one week ago that we were trying to get a couple hours of sleep before jetting off on our adventure.  In some ways it seems like we have been gone for a very long time but in other ways it seems like we just started.  So much has been packed into each day - starting before the sun comes up and ending long after it sets.  Each day has been better than the next as everyone falls deeper and deeper in love with this country and it's people.

Today was no exception.  Golden Rule has been a favorite stop on our itinerary - in fact so much so that we reserve 2 days here to soak it all in.  We are made to feel like celebrities as we are greeted with besos and warm embraces by everyone.  This year I didn't even have my name tag and yet everywhere I go my name is called and love is given.  These are dear friends and I am so thankful for every one of them in this school.  The staff are dedicated to not only teach these kids, but also to speak into their lives and model Jesus in every aspect of their lives.

Thank you for your prayers.  We all still love each other (maybe even a bit more than we did before we got here) and we are all relatively healthy...with a few sore throats, coughs and runny noses starting - but we won't let that stop us now!  Pray that we finish well - faithfully doing the things that God has called us to do!
