DAY 4 - TEACHERS IN THE MAKING?
Hey, it's Josie!
Today was another early start, our alarm was set for 5:45 but as always we just pressed snooze for the next seven minutes. Breakfast was pancakes that were decorated to look like little faces, which were very cute yet somehow slightly creepy.
After we ate the pancake people, we began our trek to AcoinPrev school. I say trek because the drive was full of... unexpected events. The back streets of Bogota are very narrow, and we have a large bus. See our problem? Our driver proved to be very skilled as we went through that portion of the city. We would come to a turn and have to scrape past vehicles, literally squeezing through without even 2 inches to spare.
We ended up being about half an hour late for teaching which meant that we missed our whole first lesson. My group, Corbynne, Gracien, and myself went directly to Class 5A and started trying to teach our lesson. We didn't realize how little time we had to teach and definitely got carried away on one particular lesson. We taught two more lessons before the bell for recess rang. In the middle of the first floor of the school is a small basketball court which we cleared out and started a game, five Canadian girls against about 10 Colombian boys. Totally fair. The boys either didn't really have a concept for the rules of game or just didn't care which definitely made it fun.
The afternoon soon came and by the end of it, we had taught around nine lessons, sang two songs in front of the entire school and eaten large portions of chicken.
At 2:30 school was dismissed and we made our way back to the guest house. After dropping off our stuff we walked over to a tienda to buy some pop and snack.. For a while, a group of five or so of us went out to the backyard and played volleyball while Corbynne successfully spilled laundry detergent all over the laundry area. Good job Corbynne :). The evening has been slow and peaceful which has been really nice and needed.
That's about it folks, thanks for tuning in.
