Monday's Ministry
Today we went to two Hogar de Paz (House of Peace) ministries where kids come to before or after school programs since they only attend school for half a day. They come from very poor families and often very desperate situations. For half a day, they receive love and are allowed to thrive in a very safe and secure environment. While there, they teach them Bible stories and spiritual values, help them with their homework. feed them nutritional food, play educational games and whatever else the teacher has planned for the morning or afternoon. Staff work closely with parents as well.
This morning when we arrived at Hogar de Paz, I struck up a conversation with the new
teacher, Erica. It turns out that she used to be a student herself in the program and she remembers us coming during her time there. It thrills me to see how God has worked in and through her life and this program to bring her to this place. To me she spells success - what is desired for each of these children that come through their doors. They find hope and healing in spite of the many challenges and obstacles that they face in their lives. This was a very impacting day for all of us today.
